Very solid advice. I learned this the hard with a few projects I've been planning out. The most recent example for me was having to reacquire the DVD Special Editions of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and a theatrical cut DVD of Michael Mann's Heat.

The only time I ever noticed this was when I purchased the UHD of Batman 1989. They added a new atmos soundtrack without including the original theatrical audio. I was so upset, but luckily I hadn't gotten rid of my blu-ray copy.
