I just noticed that The Killer is now available for streaming on Netflix US. Unfortunately, I don't have access to Netflix at the moment. Could someone check it to see what the transfer is like, and if it's in HD? It's probably the awful Dragon Dynasty transfer, but you never know

Just checked. It is indeed the Dragon Dynasty transfer.

I remember following this project back on ot.com. Finally saw the thread here and thought I'd voice support.

The 720p MKV pre-release was very impressive and remains my go-to edition to this day. The upconverted video was about the best you could get from what was out there, and the custom 5.1 audio was a notable improvement.

No doubt that once completed, this will be the definitive release of this movie until it gets the HD (or hopefully even 4K) scan it deserves.

There is a version very close to what I have been working on available on a 'DVD club' tracker specializing in 'asian' films.
Looks great! By far the best version available anywhere.
Might be worth checking it out if you we're interested in this as mine is still not ready and Ive still no time available to work on these projects.

That is in fact my custom. Just finished it yesterday. I deinterlaced and decimated the Dragon Dynasty BD to a progressive 23.976 fps. I'm surprised at how good it turned out. For a while I thought the Dragon Dynasty BD was completely unsalvageable.

A few notes though; It's not perfect. There's some ghosting and bad frames (though, it's hardly noticeable during playback), and the grain still looks unnatural. The DVD seems to have more natural grain. The 5.1 mix included is just the regular Fortune Star mix including added SFX and wrong music cues. Of course, I included the original mono mix as well.

There is room for improvement, but for now, it's the best way to see the movie in HD.

By the way, CSchmidlapp, you're more than welcome to use any material from my custom in your project.
