I just got round to watching SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE extended tv cut last night. I was really impressed with the transfer. I loved the fact, a film I have in numerious states of quality from VHS and DVD transfers, got this kind of release. Just loved it.

After 2 years or so of not going to the cinema at all, I decided to give Mission Impossible 6 a chance. Had a good feeling about it. In the end I was a bit disappointed. It definitely had some scenes worth watching, but the overall package was pretty meh. Was positively surprised about the dynamic range of the sound. The gunshots thundered through the cinema, something I don't recall hearing in any recent movie in the safety of my home. Definitely one of the strengths of the film. The mentioned few scenes worth watching are the ones that have pretty pretty cinematography; in particular the whole beginning act of the movie is pretty good - that thunderstorm scene is just fantastic. The truck scene seen in the trailer is not in the movie, sadly. As for my personal taste (those who know me know what I mean ) the movie was not as bad as most movies today but still more annoying than I had hoped.

Yeah Fallout had some fairly beefy sound.

It's an extension of the beefier Atmos design of Rogue Nation. Overall you get your money's worth but like all the M:I sequels this is a lightweight that cannot begin to compare to the masterful original.

Tonight, it was Jaws on DCP, for the 4th time in the past 3 years. This is so great to see such a classic on the big screen!

Tonight, it was The Sixth Sense on 35mm. Just compared to the Blu-ray. It's not bad colorwise as in "it doesn't betray" the look of the film, but it could use some more warmth in certain scenes (on skintones, Malcolm's grey sweatshirt that should be a bluer shade of grey when in the basement, the mom's orangy sweater in the end that should look very much redder), a bit less brightness in some scenes, too, and some grain, 'cause it looks too smooth on Blu-ray.

Today, it was M. Night Shyamalan's masterpiece, five-star, perfect film, one of my favorites ever, Unbreakable, on 35mm, for the 2nd time since 2015 or so (and the 3rd time since 2000), but this time on a better screen than last time but smaller than in 2000, still 13 meters wide. And I'm glad to claim that the Blu-ray is overall very much faithfull color-wise, brightness-wise, filmic look-wise, though it seems to suffer a bit from edge enhancement and noise. One can only hope for a faithfull 4K remaster now that the trilogy will be complete in a few months with Glass.

I've also seen Pirates of the Caribbean, the Curse of the Black Pearl and Armageddon on 35mm the past couple of weeks. I could even have seen Signs on 35mm yesterday, but I would have had to wait 3 hours between the 2 screenings, so f*** it. Shyamalan is supposed to be the guest of the French Cinémathèque, at least they hope it's going to happen, in January with the release of Glass. Supposedly, he'll give a masterclass and they'll make a trilogy event with a French premiere of Glass as conclusion, which is my most anticipated film right now. He should have been there in September with the Deauville Festival not that far from Paris, but he cancelled only after the Cinémathèque had published a programm that included a retrospective of his films, so they felt compelled to show them anyway, even in his absence.

Where are you, Nafroe? You don't have an old-school theater near you, even a small one, that shows oldies?

Out in California... would require several hours of a drive to get to the best theaters that still project film. But not quite the same rate you seem to be experiencing over there! haha... Some 70mm prints like 2001 have popped up, also Vertigo. Hard to justify the drive sometimes.
