Well, I've just started to play with Resolve on that Die Hard 3 remaster. I've found some tutorials in French on YouTube. I've got a lot to learn, damn!

Yea, Resolve color-timing does have a long hard learning curve. The German forum has a guy (part of a group) who is pretty clued up on all aspects of color timing in Resolve although he tends to go for the higher end when it comes to his saturation choices.

Is the 4 DHWAV master framed differently from the Blu-ray? Because I recall reading online that the Blu was zoomboxed. You could tell because there are many heads clipped off plus the early trailers in widescreen clearly exhibit proper framing.

Yes, there is more to see on the remaster. Maybe not everywhere, but we already noticed a fair amount of extra picture on an helicopter shot a couple pages ago.

All right. After many tests, I came up with this for Die Hard 3 : hue=0, sat=1.3, bright=3, cont=1
It's still not a perfect match compared with a 35mm print, but it's a lot better than the old master.



Does anybody know what that subtitle font below is? The remaster doesn't have those, being not domestic apparently, and I'd like to replicate that look with PGS subs.

Will try those settings Beber, been waiting on your final settings on this one. Would also like to know the subtitle font and delays when you get them, thanks. Didn't the Resolve tests work out or was it to much work to take on for the whole film.

I'm willing to work on it with Resolve, but as of right now, the French Youtube channel I'm following that publishes tutorials from scratch on Resolve 15 has not yet reached the color correction point. It's at the sorting out dailies stage in the editing tab. And trying to figure it out by myself has not been successful yet. Even though I did the scene cuts detection, I still don't know how to acquire it in the color tab to work on it shot by shot. I've only found a way to create a timeline of the full movie that only allows me to apply a general correction.

No worries, your settings in Ripbot should be fine but would appreciate the subtitle file when your finished. Just fired up Ripbot with your settings.

If you don't mind me asking - what software/hardware are you guys using to rip UHD's? Looking at upgrading my PC and it's definitely something I'd like to start doing.

I haven't done a lot but I use AVISynth+ with the DGHable plugin. It has a learning curve tho, if you've never worked with AVISynth.

It's the same plugin used in Ripbot264 I believe, but you obviously have more control over the parameters when you do it by hand.
