The goal was minimize the modern yellow/green and bring out the blues particularly in the skies. With this new tweak I tried to keep a little more of the orange skin tones of the original UHD without letting the skin getting too, too red in the regrade. Any interest in a Project Hail Mary....Project?
For those who don't know PHM was just released on UHD BD in 1.43 IMAX form 1.77 UHD BD/1.43 UHD BD ![]() Unfortunately, the 2.39 sections are windowboxed on the new IMAX like so: ![]() I understand the choice because they did that to preserve the "blurry" transitions between space and Earth ![]() but 95% of 2.39 shots have no such transitions on them. Its just a hard cut from the 1.43 to the windowboxed 2.39. So I'm thinking taking full 16:9 version of the 2.39 shots from the original and splicing them in to the 1.43 IMAX version. The question is what to do with the transition shots? I'd probably just keep them in the windowboxed form but not sure. Thanks given by: DoomBot , dvdmike , Virtualcrane

Comparing the two versions, I think keeping all the 2.39 scenes as is without the windoboxing, is the best way to go.
In other words, dump all the windowboxed 2.39 transition scenes and keep the regular 2.39 shots. So keep this: ![]() and dump these ![]() but I maybe I will create two versions for those who want the windowed transition shots. Not sure yet.

I think a zoom out effect could work for something like this

Good idea but when I played around with zooming, it came off as unnatural and kind of distracting.

Ok, finished this version of PHM.
![]() Project.Hail.Mary.2026.1.43.IMAX.and.2.39.Non-Windowboxed.Hybrid.2160p.HDR10.HEVC.TrueHD.Atmos.7.1.v.1.1 Video: This is a mix of the 1.43 IMAX shots from IMAX UHD BD with 2.39 non-windowboxed/16:9 from the original UHD BD Audio: Dolby TrueHD 7.1 Atmos (from the 1.43 IMAX UHD BD) <--- Default Commentary by co-directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (from the 1.43 IMAX UHD BD) Commentary by co-directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, writer Drew Goddard, and James Ortiz, lead puppeteer and voice of Rocky (from the 1.43 IMAX UHD BD) Sync and Size: Synced to the original 1.43 IMAX UHD BD Pics: HDR to SDR Conversion ![]() More Pics ![]() Let me know if I missed any 2.39 shots. There was one IMAX shot that had to remain in 1.77 because of the transition but the rest seems to work perfectly fine and honestly is a better watch then the windowboxed 2.39 shots. Also if anyone has a problem with the CLL/FLL please let me know. Give me a day to upload. Thanks given by: Hitcher , Virtualcrane
