Question about True Lies/The Abyss audio mixes on Blu-ray
#11
More than likely these are new mixes, always derived from the OG audio stems, of course, but still different than the OG Cinema DTS track I listened.
Atmos is 100% a "remix", just like the Atmos tracks for The Terminator, ALIENS and TITANIC.
The 5.1, on the other hand, while it might come from the OG theatrical mix stems, i'm fairly sure it differs in volume/compression levels.

For the rest, I only ever watched the Spanish Blu-Ray and the 35mm print I found online.
I prefer both to the actual UHD release.

How about the 2.0 mix on the UHD? Original stereo?

It sounded a bit different to the Atmos, so I don't think it was a downmix.

No, I think I read that it's a 2.0 track re-mixed for TV and soundbars speakers.
The safest way to the original mixes of True Lies are old DVDs and Laserdiscs.

No offense, but I have heard the 5-min credits audio cues (especially when names begin scrolling) on the Atmos, 5.1 and 2.0 are Identical to each other.

I have my selections of my audio mixes of the Theatrical Version to go with:

Version A (5-min Credits)

Dolby Atmos [2024 UHD]
DTS-HD MA 5.1 (identical to the Atmos Mix) [2024 BD]
DTS-HD MA 2.0 [2024 UHD]
Hi-Fi 2.0 [1996 Fox Video "Selections VHS *] (only Pre-2024 BD/UHD Video release which contain the 5-min Credits I am aware of, since the 1990 CBS/Fox Video VHS contains the 10-min credits

* Used to check what the audio quality is like.

Version B (10-min Credits)

Dolby Digital 5.1 [2000 Fox Home Entertainment "SE" DVD]
PCM 2.0 [1990 CBS/Fox Video "Widescreen" LD]

Please don't be upset by my check-ups.
I'm just doing what I can to come with reports with honesty.
And to hear from what your experiences regarding the mentioned mixes.

Thank you :-)

For "True Lies", we have had the theatrical dts for awhile now. No need to rely on video media.

No offence taken. I don't pretend to be an expert. Just someone who cares... I flicked between the Atmos and 2.0 tracks on the SE cut of the film and they sounded a bit different. But I don't claim that to be any definitive kind of evidence. I could very well be mistaken.

Please do enlighten me the differences between the Atmos and 2.0 Stereo mixes on the SE and where the differences occur and in turn, I could check it out to factcheck your claim :-)

Ooh, I watched it sometimes last year...

But I sampled audio at the beginning of each chapter, and there seemed to be slight variances, like sounds positioned from different speakers, different volumes...

Like I said, I'm NO expert.
