Arrow films Original lossless DTS-HD MA 5.1
#1
Hi
Might be a stupid question but I'll ask it anyways Smile
Original lossless DTS-HD MA 5.1 - what does it actually mean. Same as Cinema DTS?
For example The Mask has this but the original mix sounds a bit muddy to my ears -> not the case with my other Cinema DTS movies.

Well, "The Mask" is from 1994. Discrete Dolby Digital was rather a new thing in 1992, so 2 years earlier. As for DTS, it was only one year old. The industry was still dealing with Dolby Stereo SR mostly. What are the others you compared it to? Are they also from 1994? Are they comedies, too? Or are they action adventure?

The Mask was a full DTS show, DTS multichannel and stereo.
If Arrow have used the 5.1 stems then it should be identical, just make sure you have all upmixing off.

Closest to compare are JP and T2, but you might be right, these are not comedies Smile

T2 didn't have DTS theatrically, it predated even Dolby 5.1.
It had CDS Kodak's multichannel system.

Yes, you are right. What I ment was that T2 does not sound as muddy and restrained as The Mask. I was also expecting a bit more from Arrows Demolition Man original DTS track.

Two action movies Vs a higher budget comedy?
