Is anyone here intimately familiar with The Ten Commandments (1956)? I have it on Blu-ray and it features intermission music that comes to around 2:15.
However, I also have a copy of the projectionists' notes, which say:
"INTERMISSION MUSIC: An optical sound track, with the picture area black, has been provided for use during the intermission. It runs 4 minutes 40 seconds. It should be played through the screen speaker, with the scrim and douser closed.
In theatre screenings of THE TEN COMMANDMENTS it has been found that people return from the lobby when the intermission music is heard. It is suggested that this music be started approximately 3 minutes before the time established for the start of Part II of the picture."
I can't find any other reference to intermission music that runs for 4:40. There are a number of different soundtrack releases, but they all seem to either sit between 2:06 and 2:16, or omit the intermission music entirely.
I wondered whether the 4:40 claim in the notes was a typo, but that doesn't seem to mesh with the second paragraph: you'd want the 3-minute "buffer" to be shorter than the music, otherwise Part II would start before the published time. This implies that the music would be no less than 3 minutes long.
