Finally managed to find a 1080p Open Matte WEB-DL with the English Location sub scenes in Open Matte and colour timing matching AMZN one rather than the over yellow 3d bluray. Now to get busy adding into the untouched AMZN one.

The DTS 6.1 was a remix. I thought the Dolby TrueHD was from the 35mm?

Any particular reason to carry on using the German text version at all? Is the English version recompressed?

Not sure if it is compressed or not from another AMZN WEB-DL (without German text) or an untouched iTunes or other source but it is only 5gb so definitely not the quality of Maksnew version.

Further, now having checked it properly the compression isn't brillant so more than likely compressed from a different AMZN one.

Whatever it is, the location sub scenes are better than the severely cropped ones (so they could remove the burned in English subs and replace with poorly computer generated German ones) on Maksnew's WEB-DL even with the compression. It also has the English intro flight school text which is missing from Maknew's (replaced with black background and computer generated German subs). Also just noticed there are German subs on the invite note given to Tom by Kelly which can be replaced with this WEB-DL.

The DTS 6.1 I recall reading about when the collectors edition DVD came out.

I only have the LDs where the early 1.33 disc seems to have the 35mm Dolby stereo which sounds narrowed and a bit different and then the stunning letterbox THX disc that has the 5.1 ac3 mastered from the 70mm mix.

The color correction is a little bit of a pain, but it's moving forward (but slowly, because this project is not my main focus at the moment) PLUS, as always (apparently) I've added more sources to the project...

When it comes to the German AMAZN web-dl 1080p captures... I have two of them and they are NOT a re-encode of one into the other based on the comparisons that I've made between the two and where pixelation (or some other obvious artifact) happens to show on-screen. Plus, they have slightly different runtimes, LOL  

First, is the Bluebird capture (which I've had since it was released and was the original source I was using to color correct to the French print HDTV capture that I have. The Bluebird capture has a video bitrate of 10.9mbps.

The Bluebird doesn't include the German half-bitrate DTS track or the English 5.1 AC3 track, (opting with a full-bitrate DTS English track) while the LAME doesn't include the subtitles.

I also found the lower bitrate Mexican iTunes (??, judging by the video bitrate) 1080p copy of the film with ALL of the English text on-screen part intact. It has full-bitrate DTS English audio and 5.1 AC3 Latino Spanish, with a "great" (LMAO) video bitrate of 5120kbps.

While, the LAME encode is far superior to all other encodes that I have in terms of bitrate, the French print HDTV capture still proves to be the best source in many case (I would say about 35-40% of the film) so I'm having fun color-matching stuff and then picking best sources...

Will be a while before it's done, but I intend on finishing it before the end of the year (along with 5-6 other projects that are long overdue)

The Latino encode was just released back in february and is still floating around (however it you can't find it, PM me) but the LAME German AMAZN copy that I pulled split into 88 rar files, I can't find anywhere anymore with active links (also, feel free to PM me about this one)

If anyone wants screenshots comparing sources, I'm happy to do that, but it might take me a moment (although it won't be a few weeks/months, LOL)

The lame AMZN De (14.4mbps) I believe is taken from Maksnew source. I used the Mexican source, taken from a Czech site, to insert the English intro, location sub scenes, dinner invite and letting agent signs with added grain plate into the German AMZN. The second Bluebird one (10.9mbps), the original one was from Mexican source, which is a capture rather than a direct WEB-DL of AMZN DE exhibits more compression artifacts than Maksnew one.

So am I, especially now that I have some decent sources to work with. I can't stand the revisionist color-grading....
